School Ski Day – January 18th -  On Wednesday, January 18th, BSCA will be going to the Buffalo Ski Club in Colden, NY. We will leave BSCA at 8:15 AM and return by 5 – 5:30 PM. The Home & School will be paying $10 of each child’s cost to make it affordable. Each child will need to bring the money (probably around $10 for rentals and lift ticket), a sack lunch, the permission slip, and plenty of layers of warm clothing. For students in grades 1 – 3 to go, each child must be accompanied by a parent or an adult designated by the parent. While there, some of the adult chaperones will give instruction as to how to ski.

Parent-Teacher Conferences for 2nd Quarter: On February 2nd, the teachers will be spending time with parents to review 2nd quarter grades and student learning. This may be a bit early, but in an effort to have everyone come as you did 1st quarter, please send in a note with your 3 preferred times. Meetings start at 12:40 PM and run every 20 minutes until 7:20 PM (so every 00, 20, 40 minutes of each hour).

Mrs. Maloon’s Class
Big Honor for Students in 1-4
Each student in the lower grades has been chosen to be published in the Anthology of Poetry for Young Americans publishing contest. Watch for a letter from Anthology of Poetry for Young Americans requesting permission to print your child’s poem. If you grant permission, your child’s poem will be published in a book of poetry written by young people. If you do not sign and return the request, your child’s poetry cannot be published. You will also have the chance to purchase a volume of the book in which your child’s poetry will be published.
Salty Christian Popcorn CompanyThis week an anonymous donor gave the Salty Christian Popcorn Company a new popcorn maker. This allows us to make popcorn more efficiently, safely, and yes, more deliciously!
Doktor Kaboom” Field Trip—BSCA is going to an exciting science show at the UB Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Jan. 31. We will eat an early lunch at school, and then travel into Buffalo for the afternoon program. Cost for the trip will be $4.00.
Light-Skills—Light-Skills are a conference-wide group of Christian characteristics that NY Conference schools teach throughout the year. It is my goal, as a teacher, to model light-skills and make each child more aware of how to incorporate these into their everyday lives. Our class made refrigerator magnets with the list of light-skills so that these skills can be reinforced at home. This week we studied initiative. Our definition of initiative is “Taking the first step without being asked.” Next week our light-skill is integrity, being true to God’s ways.
This week we started a new book called The Adventures of Lisa and the Drainpipe. We will be exploring family relationships and trust in God.

Mr. Maloon’s Classroom
  • There is a grade report today. Last week the printer was down. Since the 2nd quarter ends next Friday, make doubly sure that all of their work is done or redone. Please review, sign, and make sure your child does whatever work needs to be done (0%) or redone (below 70%).
  • Book Reports! Please make sure they are reading on a regular basis (daily is best) and writing reports when they finish.
  • Next Library Trip:  may be limited to only the children taking books out and doing the book reports. Few children signed out a book last time. We will go on Thursday of next week.
  • Light-Skill of the Week:  This week was initiative – to act on something without being asked. Next week we will be reviewing and modeling integrity.
  • Dr. Kaboom Field Trip:  All grades will be going on this fun science field trip. It is in the form of a science show at UB Center for the Performing Arts. The cost is $4 and we will go on Tuesday, January 31st.
